Product Care

Alpaca wool is a luxurious, soft, and durable fiber known for its warmth and hypoallergenic properties. Proper care ensures its longevity, maintaining its texture and appearance for years. Follow this guide to handle alpaca wool products effectively.

1. Washing Instructions

Alpaca wool should be washed carefully to prevent shrinkage and fiber damage.

Hand Washing (Recommended)

  1. Fill a basin with lukewarm water (not exceeding 30°C / 86°F).
  2. Add a mild detergent or baby shampoo. Avoid harsh chemicals, fabric softeners, and bleach.
  3. Submerge gently and let soak for 5-10 minutes. Avoid excessive agitation.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with clean lukewarm water.
  5. Do not wring or twist the fabric, as this may cause stretching or felting.

Machine Washing (If Necessary)

  1. Use a gentle or wool cycle with cold water.
  2. Place the item in a mesh laundry bag to prevent stretching.
  3. Use a mild wool detergent and avoid fabric softeners.
  4. After washing, follow proper drying methods (see below).

2. Drying Guidelines

  • Lay flat to dry on a clean, dry towel. Reshape the garment while damp.
  • Avoid hanging as it may cause stretching.
  • Keep away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent fading or damage.
  • Never use a dryer, as heat can shrink and damage alpaca fibers.

3. Storing Alpaca Wool

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from moisture.
  • Use breathable fabric bags to protect from dust while allowing air circulation.
  • Avoid plastic bags, as they can trap moisture and cause mildew.
  • For long-term storage, consider cedar blocks or lavender sachets to repel moths naturally.

4. Removing Wrinkles

  • Light wrinkles can be released with steam from a garment steamer or by hanging in a steamy bathroom.
  • If necessary, use a cool iron with a protective cloth between the iron and fabric. Do not press hard.

5. Dealing with Pilling

Alpaca wool may develop small fiber balls (pilling) over time. To remove them:

  • Use a fabric comb or sweater stone to gently lift pills.
  • Avoid shaving the fabric, as this can damage fibers.

6. Stain Removal

  • Blot (don’t rub) spills immediately with a clean cloth.
  • Use a mild detergent solution for stains and rinse with cold water.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals or scrubbing to prevent fiber damage.

7. Brushing for Maintenance

  • Use a soft-bristle brush to maintain the texture and remove surface debris.
  • Brush in the direction of the fibers for best results.

By following these handling guidelines, your alpaca wool products will remain soft, warm, and in excellent condition for years to come.
